Activity 7 Google Plus

Well I can see student using this hangout feature and I've certainly been having plenty of meeting where hangouts might work.  I am hoping my robotics team can be a state wide resource for other teams and use google hangouts to help.  But I doubt that I will hangout much.  A cool feature and it certainly can give gotomeeting a run for the money. Of course, my district computer does not have video chat capabilities.

  1. Not sure how it works at HPHS, but try to put in a help desk request to install the google chat/talk plug in to allow video chats. You can reference this course as the reason for needing that feature.

  2. You can tell Facebook is the only Social Media I have known before, because I was trying to LIKE both your comments! My TA had told me about Google Hangouts for her international family, and I watched something similar of a student with a show on the internet, but did not think about the possibilities in the classroom till now. I didn't even realize that we do have plug in "rights". Good idea to ask about the updates (and Adobe updates and any other updates that will make things easier!

DO either of you know -- when we do hangouts online, are there special permissions or blocks we can set so that we are not "following" our students nor having them follow us? I am leery about anything that would be like "friending," just bc of boundaries.

  3. If you start a hangout, you decide who will get an invite based on the circles or people you share with. Your students can't pop into a hangout unless they are invited.
